Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my testimony with you, about how
RU has radically changed my life and specifically the role that the car wash played
in my coming to RU when I did.

First let me begin by telling you a little bit of my history. My husband and I moved
to Rockford in 2006 with our 10 year old daughter. I had been struggling with substance
abuse for about 15 years prior to our moving here. I knew that my addictions were
getting worse but because we lived in a small town and were well known and esteemed
in our community I felt unable to seek out the help that I knew I needed. When my
husband received a promotion and we decided to move here to Rockford I was very
excited and felt like I had a chance to make a fresh start. Because of my husband's
promotion I was able to stay home and be a homemaker, something I had wanted to
do for a long time. I genuinely believed that if I had less stress in my life (I
was a labor and delivery nurse...talk about stress!) I would be able to stop using
on my own. How foolish I was. When I worked I needed to at least be sober on the
days I worked so that I could function well at my job. So, by choosing not to work
my alcohol dependence actually got worse. As Steve says "You only exchange boundaries
for bondage". By the summer of

'07 I was at an all time low. I knew I needed help but was afraid. I remember driving
by North Love Church frequently when we were house hunting and even half jokingly
saying to him that I should check out the addictions program. My husband knew about
my substance abuse. I had confessed to him when I was pregnant with our daughter
that I had become addicted to prescription pain medicine. Thankfully God, in His
infinite mercy blessed us with a completely healthy baby girl.

Anyway...I drove past the church and went straight home to my computer. I didn't
know anything about the addictions program they offered. When I clicked on the
RU link I was blown away, especially by the testimonies. I felt a glimmer of hope
I'd never felt before. I decided then that when fall rolled around I would check
out RU, but to be honest I probably would not have gone so soon had it not been
for an experience that I had very soon thereafter, that was the RU carwash.

It happened like this. I was driving in a past of Rockford that I never drive through.

I was approaching the corner of Mulford and East State Street when I saw a group
of young people standing on the street corners. They were holding up signs for
a free car wash. The girls were very friendly and cheerful looking, calling out
to people to come and get their cars washed. I remember thinking at the time that
they must be Christians because all the women were dressed modestly in long denim
skirts. I called out the window to the girls to tell them that I was going to Kohl's,
but that I would be back soon.

When I did return I pulled into line and rolled down my window. The man at the entrance
told me that the car wash was for RU and he asked me if he could tell me about their
ministry. Before he could continue I interrupted him. I know that God had preordained
this meeting. I said to the man "I know all about RU, I've read about it online.
I'm an addict and I need help." Then and there the man prayed with me and gave
me a brochure. I took this as a sign from God that this was His plan for me. Very
shortly afterwards I began attending RU. I can't even begin to tell you how much
RU has impacted my life and the life of my family in just 9 short months. I have
grown so much in my understanding of God and in my relationship with Him. For years
I felt that I was trapped with no way out and God has given me a life of freedom
and hope. Don't get me wrong, I still stumble at times. But I know that by choosing
daily to submit my life to God I can experience the peace and joy that He promises
to those who follow Him.

I think that even if I hadn't stumbled upon the car wash that day, I would have
eventually found my way to RU. But it could have taken months, possibly years before
I had the courage to come. RU gives me the guidance, tools and support I need to
overcome my strongholds.

Because of this I strongly believe that RU should do a; it can to get the message
out, that the truth will MAKE you free. And I believe that the car wash is an excellent
way to raise money, but also to raise community awareness and to reach out to people
who have a need for salvation or sobriety or both. I want to thank the people that
took the time to serve the Lord that day and to tell them that what they did made
a big difference in my life.

Thank you to all who participated in our 2011 RU Car Wash. This fundraising event
was orchestrated to help us replace the roof on our Men's School of Discipleship.
The RU staff and students washed over 1,000 cars in one day! Even though our pledges
and gifts were slightly under the proposed goal, the Lord still gave the increase!

If you participated, thank you. If you prayed with us concerning this event, thank
you. It worked! Can I report some exciting news?? Seven souls were saved on that
day!! One thousand tracks and RU pamphlets were distributed. Continue to pray that
others would come to the One who can make them free indeed!
