Buildcraft

Mods that I like.

Buildcraft, (download (through minecraft forums))

This mod adds pipes, oil, pumps etc. This is by far one of my favourite mods for Minecraft.

Full list of features:

  • Pipes; transport, waterproof and conductive.
Obsidian suck things in.
Cobblestone and stone transport pipes transport anything you want around the place.
Gold pipes are used in conjunction with redstone to be powered to push the items along faster.
Diamond pipes seperate anything, you could have a line of EVERYTHING in a pipe, put it through a diamond pipe and you could have one item going a different direction.
Iron pipes are to stop things going back on themselves and keeps the line moving.

Quarry building.
  • Quarries.
Digs 9*9 squares within the orange barricade (see picture to the right) all the way down to bedrock.

10 engines connected to a switch.

Needs to be powered, I have found a way which uses 10 steam engines, see to the left.

You need engines, there is three to choose from, to be discussed later.

Quarry in action.

You can make pretty wide scale projects with this, but there is a limit to how big you can have your quarry, I think, because i couldn't make a 64 block long one. But you can put them below the surface, out at sea, up a moutain. But it does not drill under magma, it will just go around it.

  • Pumps are pretty self explanatory, you need to use waterproof pipes for this, which is waterproofed by adding cactus string, made by putting cactus green. Waterproof pipes can transport any liquid.

  • Conductive pipes can carry fuel to machines.
And now to talk about engines; mechanical, steam and combustion.

Mechanical work off redstone only and are not very powerful, but does the work when coming to using wooden pipes to extract materials.

Steam uses coal or charcoal, much more powerful and can be used, with redstone to turn it on, to power machines.

Combustion is the most powerful engine in the game. It uses fuel and water (to cool down the engine) pumped into it. Used for just about anything.
