Celebrities stalk blogger gossips!

Yesterday was a carefree day...

As I zipped along Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, a snazzy white Humvee (cool, dudes!) cruised up next to me in bumper-to-bumper rush-hour traffic.

Yeah, a lot of toy-boys in the neighborhood were dashing home to toss off sweaty work uniforms and head out for the cocktail hour!

As I casually glanced over at the vehicle in the next lane, I almost did a double-take. There, ensconced comfortably in the passenger side of the luxury military-style roadster, was a well-known actress (some might argue about that label). And, the stunning beauty (who I have written about in these environs) was staring right back at me with those luminous penetrating eyes!

I grinned. I tend to do that around gorgeous, classy babes!

Suddenly, she turned to the driver - and in a whisper just loud enough that I could hear over the din of the humming engines on the busy street - heard her gush to her companion,

"Do you know who that is?"

They engaged in a hush-hush bit of chit-chat for a sec, then - without warning - the blacked-out window at the rear of the passenger side slowly crept down as the driver jockeyed for a position inside to get a gander at me.

Whoa Nellie!

As the traffic inched forward a bit, I stepped on the gas and cruised up a tad; but, they slowed and - from a respectful distance behind me - continued with their animated conversation as they kept their eyes glued on my SUV ahead.

Ah, the beauty of well-positioned rear-view mirrors!

Imagine that, being stalked by celebrities! But, not for long!

When they were distracted for a sec, I quickly turned down a side street and left them in a cloud of dust.

Ciao, baby!

In the world of the celebrity, the hierarchy of publicity has replaced the hierarchy of descent and even of great wealth.”

Life in the abstract?

Perez Hilton...radio snippets, sure to entice commuters. But, Billy Bush?

The Wall Street Journal was all agog recently over news that Perez Hilton - titillating gossip maven with Internet spin - signed to broadcast snippets of celebrity news on the humble old radio in a raft of markets around the Nation.

The twice-daily rag-bites - three minutes in duration - will funnel out into the stratosphere during both the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Was the stint below his stature they kind of inferred between the lines?

On the contrary, Perez (not his real name) noted that he was inclined to float into the ubiquitous airwaves because he perceived the arena as a lucrative medium ripe with the capability to "drive" more traffic to his site. As if he needed any more tongue-wagging followers!

His site captured 2.8 million unique net surfers in February.

Whoa, Nellie!

Hilton noted that he was tuned in to the sassy radio while cruisin' about town one day (gosh, thought he'd have a chic chauffeured limousine by now to purr around the Inner-city in) when it hit him - like lightning - that there was a whole savvy audience "out there" to tap into.

Of course, Ryan Seacrest has been schlepping back and forth between the squawk box and the boob tube for years and he hasn't fared too badly - except in the Metro sexual department, perhaps.

But, Billy Bush?

On the heels of the Perez Hilton stunner I happened to be munching on a tasty plate of French fries at my favorite Burger place on Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood when the tattler's voice (no relation) squeaked over the transistor speaker about his spanking-new entertainment feature.

First guest?

A faceless Julia Roberts - who started right in with little foreplay - stirred things up with election chit-chat; then, elicited a number of wide yawns as she touted one of her causes - ecologically-sound water bottles.

Bush gushed that guests have been scrambling to jockey for a spot on his talk fest and that - surprise - he'll not only thumb through his little black book to conjure up scintillating guests but draw on his "in" with Access Hollywood to rustle up first-class celebrities for the regular segment each week.

He either pines to spread his wings - or just maybe - needs the extra moolah to feed those three kids. College tuition is expensive, 'ya know?

But, which came first - the chicken or the egg?

I expect Perez's venture has given the green light to a few media types hesitant heretofore.

So, now I expect that in addition to Bush, Perez, and Seacrest there will be a proliferation of cross-over hosts from far-reaching broadcast corners beckoning when you flip that old-style dial.

Hilton added that the inspiration for a cultivation of new shores was prompted by a healthy appreciation for sexy Paris Hilton (no relation) who he asserts - "has been able to create a cottage industry" - by virtue of her marketing smarts.

The Journal seems to feel that the Perez move indicates willingness on the part of major media to not only acknowledge "talent" on the Internet - but to develop, nurture, and shake hands with it. Sign lucrative deals, in fact.

And, the analysts have concluded that as a result of this startling turn of events a new legitimacy is being forged in respect to the blogosphere and its inhabitants as a result.

So, if the pap Perez doles out doesn't end up appealing to the palette of the commuter folk - at least he'll garner credit for paving the wave for the rest of us mortal gossip-mongers - snatching at the meager crumbs he's left in his wake.

Bush to abandon fake props for radio zip...

James Bacon...Humphrey Bogart quote on social diseases!

In Beverly Hills 213, gossip maven James Bacon recalls how the legendary film star - Humphrey Bogart - responded to press reports on the occasion that it was revealed he was ailing from cancer.

For example, when Dorothy Kilgallen (New York Journal-American) reported the award-winning star was suffering from the life-threatening disease - and that he was moved to the twelfth floor of the Los Angeles Memorial Hospital - he was alleged to have quipped,

"How do you like that? She's got me in a hospital that doesn't exist. And on the twelfth floor. That twelfth floor is what makes me mad. Sounds like a loony bin," Bogie barked angrily.

Then, still in a rage - according to the well-known journalist - he snapped,

"Why do they snipe at me because I have cancer? It's a respectable disease. It's not as if I had a dose of the clap."

Well, Bogie, even the most discerning individual can contract a social disease.

Just remember, when a person chooses to get intimate in the sack with someone - in essence - they are sleeping with everyone their partner has bedded.

Scary thought, these days.

So, play safe, everyone.

And, contribute funds to the cause of your choice, so scientists can continue with their important research - with the ultimate aim of curing "all disease" - on the face of the earth.

Amen!

Dorothy Kilgallen in happier days...

Fame...blogger-style! Fish-bowl existence, with gawkers galore!

Well, things are heating up at blogspot, that's for sure!

When I first started to "post" a few months ago at a Fox Website (OTL) reality show, it was basically on a whim. Each day, I would reflect on my thoughts, or pen a topical post on a newsworthy event.

The show folded at the end of August last year, so I moved on to blogspot, not expectin' much feedback.

Ah, but much better tools to toy with at the google site. And, a worldwide audience to cater to, if a blogger pines to expand horizons from a small fish pond to the great ocean beyond.

Well, in recent days, it appears to have panned out. You see, everywhere I go, people tend to recognize me.

For instance, I was in a restaurant last week and overheard one lad whisper to his effervescent pal,

"Do you know who that is?"

I turned to take a gander at the person they were kibitzing about - turned out to be moi! Ooops! After getting caught red-handed, the flustered duo tried to suppress their classic "egg-on-the-face" demeanor, as I turned back to sip on my piping-hot java.

Then, the other night as I was walking through a trendy Nightclub, the heads started turning one by one - not unlike a domino effect - as club-goers spied me picking my way through the packed high-energy house.

As I passed by a couple of twenty-something kids, I heard one of 'em gush,

"He looks like an 80's rock star."

"Yes, he does," his pal chimed in.

Yup, a handful of us have been famous for our golden locks - pop icon Rod Stewart, teen idol Peter Frampton, and yours truly! And, I intend to keep each lustrous strand, until father time tugs 'em out at the roots, I guess!

Natch, I was flattered by the compliment. I gobbled it up, in fact.

Heh, Dudes, B52's and shots on the house.

Now, I understand how celebrities feel in their new-found infamy; albeit, on a more miniscule scale.

Personally, I believe it's preferable to acquire fame over a duration of time, so you can sort-of settle in to the "spotlight" with the least intrusive upset.

Actually, for most of my adult life I have been fairly well-known, in varying degrees of red-hot celebrity.

For example, I often graced the pages of National ads when I modelled in my teens, and was lucky to garner a handful of press clips in the newspapers, when an art exhibition or two was unveiled at a prominent gallery at landmark stages of my long and winding career.

So, over time, I was able to acclimatize myself to the phenomenon of being in the public eye.

Actors tend to struggle for years in total oblivion, then BAM - with one plum role - they are suddenly thrust onto the world stage. On many a National talk show, astonished thespians swear up-and-down that no matter how prepared you think you are for the glare of the spotlight - when it hits, it can shell-shock 'ya - in many respects.

But, it's the bizarre behaviour of the ring-siders, that unsettle on occasion.

For instance, when I step into a cafe and a cashier spots me, their eyes go wide; then, they get all tongue-tied, might even turn beet red.

I pretend I'm clueless, snatch up my order, and head out the door with a smile.

Whew! Looney tunes, man!

Even counter staff at the local Library creep into a slow paralysis when they spy me heading their way at check out. When that dazed expression spreads wide across their faces, I have to seriously wonder, don't they realize how silly they appear?

Golly, if a star from the neighborhood popped in for a book loan, they'd probably poop their panties! And save em, for posterity! Yup, just catalogue 'em under "M" for memorabilia.

On occasion, when I sit down in Starbucks, a customer will subtly nudge a pal and whisper under his breath,

"Look, it's the blogger guy."

Well, I've been called worse!

Frankly, I'm surprised at how unsophisticated people truly are when they come into contact with "known entities"; especially in Los Angeles - where most folks ought to be jaded - 'ya know?

Funny thing, when I need to recognized - like at a bank, for instance - when I am cashing a check, they haven't a clue. But, when I would prefer anonymity - while tucking a dollar bill in the bikini of a lap dancer, or while I'm out of my gourd at a sports game - they're all eyes and ears!

I surmise the reason celebrities hang out together is because misery loves company. In a moment of celebrity crisis, they have each other to cling to, a warm body by their side to comfort 'em as they careen down dark alleys out of reach of the paparazzi and their searing penetrating lenses.

Two in a fishbowl - a tad cozier - wouldn't you agree?

I hazard a guess that now-a-days, I'll have to pay more attention to my dancing shoes; God forbid, should they be scuffed or down at the heels. And, spritz on fragrant deodorant daily, so the rumor mongers don't take jabs at me like they were inclined to with Keanu Reeves in his grunge days.

If I follow the golden rule - "always act like the person you want to impress is standing over your shoulder" - gossip mongers will be at a loss to conjure up gripes, don't you think?

Ah, fame. There are many ways to skin that cat.

Walter Winchell once said,

"The way to become famous fast is to throw a brick at someone who is famous"

Or a telephone, just ask Russel Crowe.

Sensory perception kicks in...

Gossip...the difference between men and women?

Ladies, if you're kibitzing around the water cooler, catching up on all the latest salacious gossip, and spy a male office worker's ears perk up a little and eavesdrop from afar...you may wonder why he doesn't join in.

It may be wise to consider an old saying,

"Women gossip. Men discuss"

And, if you believe that one...

Paris Hilton...casts for confidante, sensitivity a must!

Paparazzi wrangling required!

I stumbled across an interesting casting notice in Back Stage.

Paris Hilton, our darling media muffin, is seeking a confidante for her new reality show, My New BFF.

I suppose the first task would be to figure out what BFF stands for. I hang my head in shame and admit. I cheated.

I cruised over to her web site and was able to determine the initials stand for, "New Best Friend".

Ho hum!

Some of the scintillating ideas I conjured up in my own twisted mind were a lot more intriguing, I assure you!

But, moving on...

When it comes to potential candidates, Paris is fairly open across the board. For instance, the casting office notes that applicants may be male or female and any age or ethnicity.

I suppose if she hires a studly guy he could double as a bodyguard. Or, in the alternative, don a Chauffeur's cap when Missy gets a bit tipsy so the hostess-with-the-mostest may avoid another DUI.

But, be wary (dear Paris) of warming up to a pretty young gal. If you're not careful she'll be strutting around in your designer duds when you're at Mom's and trying to slip into the sack with your boyfriend when the two of you are on the outs.

Go for a homely woman with sensible shoes!

Apparently, Ms. Hilton's handlers have noted that endurance is essential.

If all that late-night carousing and jockeying for face time amid the swarms of blood-thirsty paparazzi staking out territory in front of the "Villa" and "Koi" invigorates 'ya, this is your cup of tea.

Of course, loyalty is important, too.

In that case, Paris, let's have a heart to heart. Time to dump that photographer who shot the publicity still posted above. Is it my imagination, or did the shutterbug cut off the top of your pretty noggin'? Or, are you just missing a vital part of your brain?

An ability to navigate "girl politics" is a prerequisite, as well.

Girl politics?

In that event, the hapless hopeful should take a cue from stumper Hillary Clinton. After all, the Dem Dame has been a sterling example of "humanization for maximum effect" in recent weeks.

Yes, it's important to be tear-eyed on occasion and reveal a vulnerable side. It drums up sympathy, after all. But, when called for, the right candidate should know how to stick to her guns and take a tough-as-nails stance to establish that no woman is a push-over, either.

In the event of a hissy-fit or two the confidante should be able to calm the waters by noting with soothing sensitivity,

"It's that time of the month, you know?"

Heck - didn't you know? - even guys have a day or two each month when they get - um - testy. Surely, Ms. Hilton is entitled to a bluesy off-note moment or two now 'n then!

So, good luck with the interviews, Ms. Hilton.

And, if any of the candidates don't work out, they can always shrug and say,

"Well, at least we had Paris."

Hillary Clinton...to divorce Bill; and funnyman Tony Randall was a stud!

As I stopped into a local fast food joint, a bold headline screamed out at me from the front pages of a tabloid newspaper a fellow patron left behind on the counter,

Clinton Secret Divorce Deal!

Gee, it was such tantalizing stuff, that I found myself gobbling down the titillating gossip whole as I munched on my breakfast sandwich over coffee.

According to insiders, Hillary Clinton and her philandering husband (their words, not mine) have a secret divorce pact that will end the marriage of 32 years if her historic bid for the White House ends in tears.

Golly!

"She needs the image of a healthy marriage, but it's all a sham. This marriage is made in political heaven, nothing more. Their romance ended years ago," an insider boldly confided to the tattle mongers at the Globe.

Their public display of a harmonious marriage is all a sham, others alleged elsewhere in the wild yarn.

In fact, it was claimed in various quarters - according to the weekly rag - that bitter behind-the-scenes fighting between the two has already threatened to derail Hillary's campaign.

Must be an old issue of the Globe, didn't her campaign go topsy-turvy this past week?

In sum, the "reliable" sources lamented that Hillary was furious with Wild Bill for being less-than-slick recently - what with his take-no-prisoners campaign style, in particular - which drew strident criticisms from even long-time supporters.

Close friends in the inner circle appear to have their knives out, too.

One source swore that,

"She kept him around for his political expertise, but now that seems to be working against her. In the end, she has to ask, "What good is he?"

Not even worth a romp in the hay, you say?

Folks allegedly "in-the-know" chirp, "...she swallowed her humiliation and stood by his side amid the sex scandals, because she needed Bill's popularity, connections and political savvy to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming President.

"They've agreed to end it once and for all if she doesn't capture the White House," a source close to Hillary alleges. "There is no need for this marriage if she doesn't win."

Well, if they say so.

Unfortunately, I was unable to resist the bulk of the other scintillating news bites printed up with eye-catching captions elsewhere in the tabloid rag, either.

A half page article devoted to American Idol winner, Clay Aiken, was a hoot.

In the tell-all piece, Clay Aiken's sexual preferences were questioned; in spite of the fact - he swore up and down - that "nookie" was downright disgustin'.

"No sex, please," he lamented, even though he's not even British!

The newsies found it difficult to fathom a 29 year old guy without "urges".

Likewise, here.

Heh, maybe Clay Aiken is not only super talented, but super inhuman?

Billy Carter has to wonder, "...what, no lust in your heart, either?"

"The only reason to go to those bars is to get drunk and have sex," heart-throb Clay theorized. "To me, bars are what hell is like."

Then, what is heaven like, pray tell? Warbling on American Idol without missing one high note?

Well, you only have to read between the lines: gay!

He didn't even have to mention "show tunes" to figure that out.

A funny scoop was offered up by Tony Randall's widow, too.

Another tidbit about "gayness"...

Gee, homosexuality used to be the love that dare not speak its name; now it appears to be the love people that won't shut up about, eh?

With a straight face, Heather laughed at the idea that people thought Tony was a homo; in spite of the fact he was inclined to effectively play a handful of effeminate roles during the course of his career.

In fact, the fresh-faced lovely went so far as to claim that Tony was such a "stud" - so secure in his masculinity - that he never even suspected people "thought" he was homosexual.

Whoa, Nellie!

Enough of that drivel!

The one titillating piece of gossip that took the cake was the tidbit on Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.

According to the reporter (I use that term loosely) Demi can't sleep nights, afraid that Bruce will end up in the sack, old and lonely.

If that's the case, then why did she divorce him?

According to Ms. Moore, Bruce needs to ditch the b****** and the hot 'n heavy dates with the bevy of young bimbo bombshells he's been bedding.

Date women his own age, you say?

Who? Candice Bergen, or Angie Dickinson - perhaps?

Something tells me, they wouldn't put up with any of that 2nd childhood **it.

By the way, what's the point of dating someone younger, if you can't call "the shots", or use your Machiavellian smarts to maneuver your way - um - on top?

Does the former brat-packer expect us to believe that her 30 year-old stud - Kutcher - doesn't yap at her heels all day, like an adoring pup?

Yeah, come to think of it, the Globe is just a lot of silly, puffed up chatter.

But, I wonder...what kinda' bucks are the tabloid writers raking in, anyway?

Do you think they make more than a blogger?

Maybe it's time to jump ship...

Aw shucks - me, a sex symbol?

For Willis, one sloppy Lewinski - please!

Quentin Tarantino...tantrum in Park, Utah. Give the man a break!

Embarrassing footage of Quentin Tarantino - cutting up on camera - has been circulating the tabloid gossip shows this past week.

Apparently, Quentin was schlepping along the street and minding his own business in Park, Utah - where the Sundance Film Festival is underway - when a cameraman dashed up with the intent of capturing the quirky director in his element.

Quentin stopped dead in his tracks when he spied the paparazzi - turned to him - then quipped, with an exasperated look on his face,

"What are you doing?"

When the photog failed to answer, an altercation ensued between the two.

Now, gossip mongers are using the incident to cast a negative light on Quentin Tarantino, and his reputation.

On more than one occasion, I've covered events that Tarentino attended and not only witnessed his behavior up-close, but also unobserved from afar....on the street, at a local movie house, wherever.

For the record, I can state quite emphatically, that Mr. Tarentino has always been generous to fans, usually stopping to sign an autograph or two.

Give the man a break, eh?

One has only to approach Quentin with a little courtesy, to land a memorable photo op, I assure you.

As to the clash in Utah, well, it was triggered by the inappropriate conduct of the dim-witted cameraman, in my estimation.

Julia Roberts put it succinctly when she noted,

“I don't think I realized that the cost of fame is that it's open season on every moment of your life.”
