Tom Brokaw...quote of the day! Was Hillary pushed out of race?

I had a dream!

Well, if you're like me, you woke up this week and suddenly realized there was no one left to kick around in the Democratic party.

Talk about a vacuum!

When queried on the issue, one top newsman was inclined to access the situation this way:

"It was inappropriate for journalists especially to try to cut the process short," Brokaw quipped from the sidelines.

"It was an appropriate issue for people to report on, in context, but there was an awful lot of commentary disguised as reporting that gave the impression that people were trying to shove her out of the race."

Is he kidding?

Of course, we were!

John McCain...blogger attacks reveal scrapper tendencies. Red-neck blues over Obama win.

Well, old soldier-boy with the machine-gun mentality, sure fired off a mouthful of slugs helter-skelter this week.

Allegedly pi**ed over a raft of biting barbs flung his way from bloggers and pundits alike, the old war horse dusted off the artillery and took a few pot shots at a whole posse of 'em.

A few zingers about his bad temper, curious dalliances with a multitude of lobbyists, and his overall inclination towards rusty "antiquity", got his goat so-to-speak.

Lamenting that he was "up to here" (where that is, we're not sure) with their scurrilous antics, he was inclined to pose a scintillating question to confidants, devoted family members, and newsies at Fox.

"What do you call a hundred-thousand bloggers bound in chains at the bottom of the ocean?"

When the faithful reacted in shock to the answer - "The first month of my presidential administration" - I expect he was cackling away maniacally in the war room at the Pentagon.

Yeah, the paranoid little scrapper doesn't have a foot in the White House yet, and he's already engaged in maneuvers to obliterate a hostile coalition in the trenches he imagines is out to oust him.

Even if it takes him a hundred years, I expect.

The old gas bag rubbed his hands with glee when he revealed to a captive press his intention to replace those nagging bloggers ("sniping bastards") with intelligent (yet loyal) robots manufactured "right here in the United States".

Mr. McCain, I thought that locally-manned factories went the way of the rhino - um - Dinosaur?

Ever heard of the term "outsourcing", Sir?

"As for the losers who comment on blogs, letters to the editor, or call-in TV talk shows," Mr. McCain continued, "I will substitute charming chimpanzees to do the same job."

Well, as long as they're not combative, John. Charm we can live with.

He'll no doubt enlist 'em from his circle of friends and supporters who are inclined to charmingly ape each other, anyway.

Ironically, some of Mr. McCain's "most vocally corrosive detractors" - according to one astute newspaper reporter - "come from his own GOP Party".

Mr. Cheney - remember him? - was so incensed by McCain's outrageous conduct that he mentioned to a handful of constituents in passing that he'd like to tie McCain to a porch and beat him with a stick.

Unfortunately, Bush's "Dick" is too short to carry out the task.

Ouch!

Well, that's the first worthwhile effort that Mr. Cheney (he is VP, isn't he?) to the national dialogue in recent days.

The White House shadow was downright adamant that politicians shouldn't wax poetic about that kind of idle cocktail chatter when they're running for office.

So, I guess McCain has outed himself, in some respects.

Imagine, on the heels of Obama's big-win Tuesday, he's already losin' it.

In fact, a number of bizarre comments uttered in the heat of the moment have signaled just how balmy Mr. McCain is.

For instance, if he had his druthers, he'd take the Internet Information Highway hostage, too.

"America has lost its competitive advantage due to employees wasting time on the Internet all day long while they're at work," Mr. McCain said.

Say what?

I thought it's because we're in an expensive unpopular war scorned upon by the world.

You're just jealous because you don't know how to turn a PC on, John.

The gnarly sexy senior sure has demonstrated an eloquence when it comes to the spoken word, too, hasn't he?

"They want to open Hotmail or the Google I say they should open a big can of shut the hell up."

Sounds tasty. Can you microwave that?

Is he just envious because he doesn't know what a link is?

Oh, the man prostesteth too much.

He zips off communications by telegram, after all. Just how archaic is that?

Maybe it's time to put down the walkie-talkie, ole boy.

You need to join myspace and make a friend or two.

And, boldly go where you and your cronies have never ventured before, the real world!

John, quite the girly-man...

Hillary Clinton...Bill Clinton campaign; Promo Photo

Merging of two strange bedfellow candidates...

Some pundits were quite upset yesterday when it came to their atttention that at rallies, Hillary and Bill, have been passing out buttons urging voters to plug down their votes for the "Clinton's"...as a team!

"Why," one astonished political analyst lamented, "...asking voters to cast a ballot for Mrs. Clinton is wrong. She's running in the race as Senator Clinton, after all."

Others, stand amused on the sidelines, theorizing what die-hard promoters of "change" have been predicting all along...

A vote for Senator Hillary Clinton is not a vote for change, but rather, amounts to casting a ballot for the same old same old.

You know what I mean?

Bill's favorite Hillary button...

Barack Obama...the first "Black Experience"; say what?

In Barack Obama's recent autobiography, he allegedly recalls the days of his youth on campus at Occidental and - lo and behold - his first "Black Experience".

Say, what?

Just what does he mean exactly?

A little rappin' in the hood? Or maybe it just amounts to...a handful of rousing Gospel moments at the local House of Worship, with the Brothers and the Sisters, in tow?

Maybe, it means just kickin' back in a sloppy undershirt and jeans, under a ripe old moon, chomping on some grits, fried chicken, and black-eyed peas?

I'm baffled...

So, with a nod and a grin to Mort's Delicatessen in San Francisco (Post; 02/17/08), I am offering a tasty bag of fresh chocolate chip cookies to the person who can best describe in - "colorful, insightful, and glorious detail" - just what, pray tell, a "Black Experience" is.

Presidential Race...polling stations run out of ballots at Stanford and Six Districts! Super Tuesday madness.

Hillary working some magic with over 65 voter...

On the eve of Super Tuesday, reports are filtering in that at Stanford and in six local districts in the region, there has been a danger of running out of ballots at polling stations.

In one panicky moment, officials were forced to make copies of ballots from a master, and print up second runs, after omitting identifying markers on the original ballot sheet.

Voters are being urged to take their "sample ballots" with them to the polling stations for possible use in the event there is a shortfall.

In the districts mentioned, the problems are occurring due to a large student turnout; coupled by the fact, Independents are being allowed to transfer their votes at the polling stations to democrats, if they wish.

In spite of the large youth-vote turnout in these geographic areas, the nightly news anchors are reporting that on a National level, students have not been getting "out the vote" as heartily as expected. Too much homework bogging 'em down?

Another trend reflects that while most of the under 30 crowd tend to be voting for Obama and his campaign of change, an extremely large contingent of mature, over 65 voters, are getting out to the polls to cast their ballot for Hillary Clinton.

At this juncture, a large vote-count for Huckabee also appears to be heralding a trend on the wings of Evangelicals in concentrated pockets around the U.S. where religious faith is influential.

I stopped in to the polling station at the YMCA in downtown San Francisco, and the voter turnout there has been quite low, according to the staff on duty...not too inspiring for any candidate, in fact.

But, as news spills out from various quarters of the Nation, it appears there is a dead-heat on...

Who will win?

It's still a toss up; hang on to your seat-belts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

Youth vote tending to go Obama's way...

Hillary Clinton...plans to clean up Bush's mesh!

Who's afraid of Hillary Clinton?

One of the most poignant lines in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" occurs when Martha - played by Oscar-winner Elizabeth Taylor - pokes her head out the front door and cries out to her slightly-inebriated husband, wallowing in his woes in a lush garden bed outside,

"Did you clean up the mess you made in here, George?"

On a breeze through the Los Angeles Metropolitan area yesterday, apparently Hillary Clinton triggered a chorus of "hurrahs" from a gang of rapt supporters when she quipped that she'd clean up any mess George W. left behind, in much the same way devoted hubby - Wild Bill - did, when Bush, Sr. exited the oval office

Talk about calling the kettle black!

If memory serves me right - it has been known to falter, I'll admit - Hillary was not terribly good at making a clean sweep after Whitewater (like La Liz in "Woolf", she tended to slip the unseemly underbelly of indiscretions under the nearest cushion) or quite capable of quelling the public's continued suspicions over other intriguing scandals, like the Norman Hsu affair.

Wise old sage Master Julian once said,

"People in glass houses should be careful about how they stow the foundations of their own thrones."

Bill Clinton dogged in recent days...

Presidential Candidates....need sense of humor!

In recent days, Bill Clinton appeared on the Charlie Rose talk show, and was visibly agitated about comments candidates made about his hubby, Hill.

Not since the heady days of the smoking - er - blue dress...have I witnessed slick Willy so incensed over an alleged "attack".

Actually, there has been a tendency in the Presidential race over the past few weeks for candidates to be awfully touchy about silly issues; in fact, as soon as comments on the campaign trail have hit the sounding board, all of 'em have reacted ferociously - taken swipes, defended their positions - whatever.

It strikes me that the candidates are awfully sensitive, overly-so.

If you ask me - Obama, Clinton, and Edwards - have all engaged in conduct which smacks a lot of grammar school shenanigans...you know, that - "he said, she said" - kind of mentality, stuff.

Grow up, folks, you're in a Presidential Race.

Google...searches turn up faces of Clinton, Obama, Huckabee; block pop-ups!

The dailies are awash with news that Hillary Clinton picked up endorsements from three major organizations, willing to roll up their sleeves, and take on some of the tough tasks awaiting the Presidential candidate on the troubled trek in Iowa over the next few weeks.

The big 3 backers are: "Emily's List" (Nation's largest political action committee), the "American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees", and the "American Federation of Teachers".

On the heels of this stunning announcement for the Clinton camp, "Emily's List" has released a statement noting that they are "trying a new technique developed with the help of GOOGLE, to reach female voters there, especially those who are unsure how to navigate the state's complex caucus system."

For instance, when someone launches a search on GOOGLE, by inputting a word or term - such as "yoga", "stocking stuffer", or "recipe" - a banner pop-up will invite the net cruiser to visit a website supporting Hillary Clinton.

So, if you don't want to see the leering - er - cheery face of Hillary, it may behoove you to install "pop-up" blocking software, right away!

I thought I might approach GOOGLE about setting up a similar scam - er - proposal for a handful of the other candidates.

For example, key in the words "Liberty Coins", "Texas Rednecks", or "Property Deeds", and you'll be linked to Ron Paul's All-American web site.

Likewise, input "medical marijuana", "GQ", or "Oprah Winfrey", and sooner than you can say - "favorite things" - Barack Obama's smiling face will show up on the screen wearing a button that says something to the effect of, "Experience the Difference", whatever.

But don't forget to search for "Hallmark cards", "American Heroes", and the "working class", because the surprise high-ranking results will conjure up web sites for the John Edwards campaign, champion of the underdog - the American worker.

Huckabee's trail may be located - if the site address escapes your foggy memory - by inputting "Quarantine", "Preacher", and, of course, "AIDS Awareness".

I feel badly for Rudy Giuliani, though, he gets hits from searches on "hairpieces", "911 Backlash", and "Rich Folks".

Go figure!

Oprah Winfrey...boosts Obama to No. 1!

This past week, Oprah Winfrey trotted Barack Obama around the country, like a dog on a leash; subsequently, the exposure boosted the Presidential candidate’s record to No. 1 on the charts!

Oh, wait a sec.

I guess that was Josh Groban...yeah, his recent appearance on Oprah, skyrocketted "Noel" to the top of the pop charts for 3 straight weeks.

Oprah, it's difficult to keep your men straight!

Tom Cruise, then Steadman, a crooner...now a politician inclined to smoke a doobie now and then.

Even so, I guess it doesn't hurt to be listed as one of your favorite "things".

Well now, it's a snap to sell a book or a record to the American afternoon talk show public, but how 'bout a Presidential candidate?

One fan of the show noted to the news media in recent days that she wouldn't vote for a candidate on a celebrity person's say-so.

Oh well, Obama, enjoy the ride while it’s free...

Barack Obama...LA TIMES editorial alleges smear!

In the December 3rd edition of the LA TIMES, the editorial department alleges that there has been an ongoing effort on the Internet to "smear" Presidential Candidate Barack Obama.

In the Editorial section of the daily, unknown writers, state quite emphatically that - as a result - the "American Smear" is revealing its ugly head once again.

The editorial team reported that there have been persistent rumors circulating on the Internet that Obama (well-known to Chicagoans as a Christian) is actually a "stealth Muslim”, a "Manchurian Candidate", who would take the presidential oath with his hand on the Koran.

The paper asserts that the first rumors surfaced during Obama's run for Senate, but it was not until a recent "virile" e-mail campaign - wherein accusers labeled Obama of being the "enemy within" - finally stuck.

In fact, the false allegations became so serious, that the campaign team was forced to denounce Fox News for repeating what they assert was a false Insight Magazine report that "Obama spent four years in an Indonesian madrasa, an Islamic School".

Although CNN confirmed that the school in question had nothing in common with Pakistant incubators for jihadists, and the record has been set straight, the popular morning daily noted that the Washington Post proceeded to run a front-page story about Obama's alleged "Muslim" ties.

In response, Editors at the TIMES have summarily labeled the allegations "false and vile" - and further articulated - that the fact they persist in the face of the facts..."speaks to the power of the underlying calumny - that Muslim Americans in positions of power in the U.S. represent a fifth column, and internal security threat of the sort believed to have been posed by Japanese Americans during World War II."

They further argue that the issue..."speaks to the post 9/11 revival of the ancient Christian loathing of Muslims that predated by centuries the 1529 Ottoman Siege of Vienna."

Because American voters are probably not ready to vote in a Muslim President, it is conjectured that the "rumor-mongers" are spreading the hateful lies in a bold-faced effort to sabotage Obama's run for the White House.

In conclusion, the LA TIMES staff note that it is the duty of candidates of both parties - to not only denounce the smear against Obama - but the bigotry that lies beneath the movement.

Henry Adams once said,

Politics, as a practice - whatever its professions - has always been the systematic organization of hatreds.

I agree.
