| | Celebrity Champion & Mom, Melissa Gilbert | | Hi, I'm Melissa Gilbert. I'm the national spokesperson for The Partnership at Drugfree.org, and you probably know me best as Laura on "Little House on the Prairie." I'm still acting, and I'm also an author, a mother and, most importantly, a person in recovery from alcohol abuse. I'm very excited to be taking part in this month's "Meet the Parents Hour." This is a LIVE Facebook Chat and Q&A session, taking place on Thursday, July 28 at 12 p.m. EDT/9 a.m. PDT. I know the toll addiction takes on families. I experimented with drugs as a young adult, but I was not overwhelmed by my own addiction until I was married and a mother. In my first book, Prairie Tale: A Memoir, I describe how one of my blackouts convinced me that I needed help with my drinking. Today, nearly seven years later, my job is to let parents know that this organization is here for them, and that I'm here because I get it. I've been there on every side. I was the kid. Now I'm the parent. And I'm here to let them know that they're not alone. Knowing that I am not alone is the foundation of my sobriety. Please join me and Johanna Bos, a parent support specialist here at The Partnership at Drugfree.org, as I share my journey to sobriety, answer questions and offer insights to parents who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues in their own families. I look forward to chatting with you. To take part, just go to the comment thread under my photo on the Facebook wall of The Partnership at Drugfree.org. Please be sure to REFRESH YOUR BROWSER throughout the chat. (That's key!) There, you can view all comments and questions throughout the hour. All my best and we will connect on Thursday. -- Melissa, National Spokesperson | |
