Bill Clinton...pain in butt?

They're right...she does have a big a**.

The media has been trying to pin down Obama on potential running mates for the upcoming election.

But, he's been a bit coy with the press. And, determined not to overstep himself in these precarious political times.

In spite of the fact it's obvious someone in the wings will have to reach out with a hook, and yank Mrs. Clinton off the world stage kickin' and screamin' at the appropriate nod, Obama has been quite a gentleman about it - biding his time patiently.

Is the nomination in the bag yet?

Not if Hillary would have her druthers.

On the subject of choosing an individual for the Vice Presidential ticket, one reporter pointedly asked Obama,

"Will you be willing to consider everyone a possible running mate, even if his or her spouse is a pain in the butt?"

A veiled reference to slick Willy?

After a roar from the crowd, and a moment to collect his thoughts, Barack was inclined to note for the record that one of his heroes - Abraham Lincoln - often filled positions with rivals, so why not?

That old familiar saying comes to mind,

"Keep your friends near, but your enemies closer."

If that's the route he goes, the man must be a masochist.

If you ask me, jousting with Hillary in the White House would amount to utter he**.

Personally, I wouldn't tempt fate by sipping any beverage or munching on any delectable goody she brought to the Oval Office around afternoon tea, either.

Barack, beware of Greeks who bear gifts...

John Edwards...for Vice President of U.S.?

I hadn't heard from presidential hopeful - JOHN EDWARDS - since he bowed out of the race, so when a lone e-mail popped up in my inbox, I clicked it open to take a gander at what he was up to.

Of course - the big news splashed over all the newspapers around the Nation this morning - was John's announcement that he's backing Barack Obama in his quest for President. And, confirmation that Barack signed on to Edwards' anti-poverty initiative which Edwards launched yesterday with the goal of reducing poverty in the United States by half within the next ten years.

But, I didn't notice any reports on John's - "College for Everyone" - project; a scholarship pilot project started up by he and Elizabeth a few years ago in Greene County, North Carolina - the subject matter of his communication to me.

As Edwards notes in his e-mail,

"The (College for Everyone) program is based on a simple promise to students: make good grades, work at least 10 hours a week, and stay out of trouble - and the program will help pay for your first year of college."

Since the project was first launched in 2005, the percentage of Greene County high school graduates attending college has increased from fifty-four percent to seventy-four percent, according to the Edwards' team.

Current up-to-date records also reflect that one hundred and sixty-five high school seniors in Greene County are set to graduate in May and that ninety-four percent have been accepted into N.C. colleges and universities.

For John and Elizabeth, the previous numbers were heartbreaking.

"Every parent wants to give their child the opportunity that comes with a college education. But for too many American families, the dream of a college degree was just that - a dream."

John and Elizabeth are now asking for financial support from Americans around the country to help make the dream of a college education a reality for some hard-working students in rural Greene County, for starters.

Donors may make tax-deductible donations of - $10, $25, or $50 - to bring the Edwards' project one step closer to a realistic goal of a high-quality "College Education for everyone".

"By contributing now," notes Edwards, "You will help fulfill the college dreams of deserving students in Greene County and show the world that if we work together on big and important issues, change is possible."

On the heels of all this news overnight, it strikes me that it is wholly possible that John Edwards may make an excellent running mate for Barack Obama in a bid for Vice President of the United States.

Don't 'ya think?

Democrats...no country for white men!

What does the American voter want, pray tell?

There was a funny cartoon in the Los Angeles Times today.

Two middle-aged white men are sitting in a local bar having a couple of brewskies.

As they watch the presidential news footage in the lounge and view reports of Hillary and Barack leading in the Democratic polls, one turns to the other and quips, "Which are you feeling more like, a black man or a woman???"

To the Democrats, this is no country for a white man!

John Edwards...bows out of campaign race; heartfelt e-mail explains!

I was saddened to hear that John Edwards chose to end his campaign since I thought in my heart he was best man for the job!

Dear Julian,

You have stood with Elizabeth and me throughout this campaign. Your support has sustained us as we have traveled across this country.

Earlier today, I suspended my campaign for the Democratic nomination for the presidency. I made this announcement from where our journey began just over 12 months ago: New Orleans.

I began my presidential campaign in New Orleans to remind the country that all of us - as citizens and as a government - have a moral responsibility to each other, and what we do together matters.

Now, it's time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path. We do not know who will take the final steps to the White House - but what we do know is that our Democratic Party will make history.

And, along the way, all of you who have been involved in this campaign and this movement for change and this cause, I am asking you to continue speaking out for those who have no voice, just as Elizabeth and I will continue to do.

We need you.

Do not turn away from the great struggles before us. Do not give up on the causes that we have fought for. Do not walk away from what's possible, because it's time for all of us - all of us together - to make the two Americas one.

We need you.

I hope you will take a few moments to listen to the video clip of my speech in New Orleans earlier this afternoon or to read it below.

In the meantime, Elizabeth and my family join me in thanking all of you for your support and for working so hard on my behalf. We are truly blessed to have such friends.

Thank you.

John Edwards...bows out of race for Presidency!

Democrats...polarization of races, South Carolina!

The White guys love me, what can I say?

Bill Moyer joked on his talk show the other night that pundits were accusing Bill Clinton of putting a spotlight on the fact that Barack Obama is a black candidate...

"Are they saying that no one noticed before that Obama is Black? Come on," he lamented, somewhat flabberghasted.

Well, no matter how you look at it, the word appears to be out.

If African Americans were unaware of the fact before, they sure as heck know now.

For instance, yesterday - at last count in the South Carolina polls - 81% of the Black population sprung into action and voted for Obama.

In another sector of the community there, John Edwards allegedly garnered 47% of the white male vote.

In view of the trend, the analysts have declared there is an obvious polarization of the races, underway in the Presidential Race.

Come "Big Tuesday", we'll see the phenomenon in full swing.

Any predictions?

In view of the fact a large number of females (black and white) also voted for Obama in SC, it's a toss up, in my estimation!

See you at the polls!

Turn in the road...tide changes for Obama!

Democrats...2 1/2 candidates, according to Today Show pundit!

When Matt Lauer asked a pundit - Tim Russert - appearing on the Today show as a guest, how the field was shaping up for both the Republicans and the Democrats after underdog Mitt Romney's big "Win Tuesday", he opined,

"The Republicans have about 3 or 4 potential candidates. And, the Democrats have about 2 1/2 or 3."

A half? - Lauer quizzically responded...

So, who was the pint-sized candidate Russert was referring to, when he "misspoke"?

John Edwards losing muscle?

Iowa Caucus...last impressions, Presidential Candidates 08!

Mitt Romney...Handsome is as Handsome does!

Well, last night the campaign trucks all pulled into Iowa, and all candidates stood up before the locals - and the media - to make their last bids for the Presidency.

Except, for one!

The Huckabee hopeful made a classic boo-boo on two counts. Instead of groveling with candidates in the "heartland", he chose to elevate himself above the others, by flying to Burbank, California, to appear on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The poor man failed to check his facts, and subsequently, ended up with egg on his face. You see, in order to make the fateful appearance, he was forced to cross a picket line - after all, the writer's strike is still grinding on.

Huckabee tried to beg off with the flimsy excuse he hadn't been properly informed of the specifics; nonetheless, few gave him any wiggle room...today many were shaking their heads and calling the republican candidate a "scab".

On a second count, he erred too.

His reason for appearing on the Tonight show? According to Huckabee, a friendly chat with Leno was a golden opportunity to reach out to thousands of Americans across the great Nation, instead of a paltry handful of voters in Iowa proper.

Big mistake!

If Mr. Huckabee doesn't know the value of a warm handshake - or the potential of one-on-one personal contact with the voter - then he'd be wise to pack it in...the man is out of his depth, surely!

But, the Obama handlers made mistakes, too. At one point, the campaigners propped the political-savvy candidate up on a makeshift "soap box" - which stressed one point - he may be short on something!

Symbolically, the image gave the impression Obama is trying to play with the big boys. We'll know tomorrow, if he can.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Obama's speech lacked oompf, too.

At times, the well-educated Senator stumbled over words - grasped for the appropriate turn of phrase - so, insightful viewers were inclined to whisper on the sidelines - "Was he smoking doobies in the green room?"

If it wasn't obvious before - it sure is now - Mr. Obama may find it difficult to walk in Martin Luther Kings' shoes. In spite of fact the Obama team has hinted that their candidate is capable of picking up where the honored leader left off - at this point - it appears doubtful. His take on the "I had a Dream" speech, fell flat.

In sum, Obama appeared tired and weak, and in need of a good shot in the arm.

Mitt Romney's moment in the sun was kind-of-like a fireside chat. Except, it failed to meet it's potential impact. Maybe someone should have passed on a memo to props to include a cracklin' fire in the background as he made his pitch on American values. The setting was spare, after all.

Mitt is an honest straightforward man, but - handsome is as handsome does, right?

Hillary's speech was also low-key...about as soft in focus as those lenses which recently shot footage of her two-minute promo this past week, designed to touch the undecided voter. Instead of attacking her opponents last night, she took pot shots at Bush instead. Ho Hum.

Hillary getting image tips from Madonna?

She appeared for all-the-world, like she was at a coffee klatch...about to hand out her latest recipe, give sewing tips, or instructions on joga.

In sum, John Edwards stole the thunder last night. After all, his speech was forceful and dynamic - eloquent at times - and oftentimes reminded the voters of a young JFK or Robert Kennedy.

The lasting impression?

John Edwards is definitely Presidential material.

In essence, he left others in the dust, in my estimation

Presidential Candidates...guilty pleasures revealed, eve before Iowa Caucus!

Hillary may have to join the Boys Club

Well, I suppose before a candidate gets firmly ensconced in the White House, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get familiar with his or her peccadilloes, if any.

In a sort-of ice breaker, the Presidential Candidates were asked on the eve before the Iowa Caucus, what their guilty pleasures were.

If you recall, for JFK, it was a - um - statuesque blond, smuggled into the White House in a trunk of a car.

Nixon? Well, allegedly, he salivated over cold hard cash in hand.

Ronnie Reagan loved jelly beans.

So, when Mitt Romney noted his sweet tooth for M & M candies - and a short list of other tasty finger treats - it was obvious - the man has Presidential traits.

As to Mrs. Clinton? Well, slick Willy's better half has learned quite a bit in recent weeks, judging by the way she answered.

When asked what her guilty pleasure was, I half expected her to quip in her own inimitable style - "Diamonds or Pearls, either". Instead, she quickly responded with her answer, "Chocolate". And, when queried further about the specific kind, she was fast on the uptake once again, "Dark Chocolate".

Yes, wily Hilly wasn't going to fall into that trap again - get caught sitting on the fence, trying to garner approval in every quarter - and hence - run the risk of coming across as the clever, but wishy-washy gal, we'd all come to love and chastise.

You rose to the occasion well, Mrs. Bill.

For Rudy, the indulgence amounted to a toss up between an expensive cigar or chocolate. Either one would suffice, in a pinch.

Another candidate also indicated his yearnings for a big fat cigar, usually one of questionable origins. I haven't given his name 'cause I'd hate to see him lose the election bid over a Cuban missile crisis, of sorts!

Surprisingly, Barack Obama was not inclined to put things in his mouth when it came to guilty pleasures...no sir, he confidently noted for the record that his addiction was to - Sports Centre. So, Dudes, if you're pining for a PREZ you can watch a game with, and chortle alongside of with a keg of beer to dip into, Obama is your man!

Judging by his trim physique, it was evident to me from the get-go that Presidential Candidate John Edwards was not into fattening snacks...he confirmed the fact, when he noted that he was inclined to indulge a little, by sleeping in!

There's a man after my own heart. There's nothin' finer (except for Carolina) than a late snooze, in a luxury hotel, with excellent room service.

Yeah, I'm inclined to just lay back on a pile of plush pillows, peruse the morning dailies, and channel surf for a couple of hours, before I face the day.

After tonight, John Edwards may be doing the same, who knows?

Barack Obama...wins Iowa caucus, if!

Political pundits are betting that if there is a large turn-out of independent cross-over voters and Republican turncoats at the Iowa caucus this week, that Barack Obama will surge ahead to win the coveted spot sought by all the candidates.

Likewise, if Hillary manages to manipulate a large show of Democrats in strong numbers, she may garner a win by about two percent of all available votes.

Meanwhile, competing candidates continue to give pep talks up 'til the final hour, with the specific aim of snatching up a fistful of valuable, undecided ballots.

Huckabee's been waxing passionately about family values, for instance.

John Edwards, on the other hand, continues to scorn Corporate greed - in spite of the fact critics argue that Iowans' care less about the issue - than voters in other key states around the Nation.

Well, I plan to snap up a bunch of snacks, and quench-thirsting sodas, then - hanker down for the big count in front of the TV - mid-week.

Once the carcasses are accounted for, the truth shall be known.

May the best man - or woman - win, eh?

John Edwards...Happy Holidays message!

John Edwards...meets funding requirements!

Well, looks like Governor Schwarzenegger is not the only politician capable of flexing some muscle...

In recent weeks, I penned posts, noting that John Edwards was seeking to raise $500,000.00 by December 1st (2007) so that his campaign would be entitled to matching funds from the Government.

John Edwards’ supporters may be glad to hear the good news!

Over the week-end, campaign Manager - Joe Trippi - send me an e-mail communication noting that the sum of $751,000.00 was raised prior to the deadline.

So, it is onward and upward for Edwards.

Remember, the Democrats will need a strong candidate to stand up against John Paul in the upcoming Presidential Race.

So, do your part today to put the best candidate in the White House.
