Mid-Year Session Will Consider Social Norms Campaigns for Coalitions

Obama Administration Officials Release National Drug Control Strategy and Southwest Border Counternarcotics Strategy
This week, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) released its 2011 National Drug Control Strategy. In it, substance abuse prevention is emphasized as "the most cost-effective, common-sense approach to promoting safe and healthy communities" and "the Drug Free Communities program is recognized as a program that has demonstrated effective, community-based prevention strategies by collaborating and leveraging important prevention work being done at the community level."

Coalition Learns Greatest Asset is its People
Doing more with a little is one of the things that Denis Quiñones, the director of the Boyle Heights Coalition for a Safe and Drug Free Community, gained from attending CADCA's training and being part of its first Ambassador cohorts. Being the only Drug Free Communities grantee in cash-strapped Los Angeles, building capacity has been the greatest asset his coalition has.

Study Connects Binge Drinking to Advertising
Advertising effectively promotes alcohol brands to teens, researchers from Dartmouth Medical School and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found in a study published in this month's issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
