Different Types of Background Checks

Checking on someone has been a part of our daily lives, especially if we barely know the person. There are masses of reasons why a person perform checks on others, it can be because some are securing their security like those in the banks, in airplanes, a person who is in need of a daycare specialist, a parent in need of a nanny, a landlord in hunt for a good tenant and many more.

A background check is a procedure done to investigate public records, financial records and commercial records about a certain person. This is done if a person is applying for a job. This is to ensure that person is trustworthy, no criminal backgrounds and credible. It is mostly done by police but through the evolving technology, there are certain firms that offer background checks for employers via internet.

There are different types background checks and here are some ways to obtain information: first, the employment references, it checks records from past employers. Second, education verification, this checks school grades and other professional qualifications obtained. Third, identity and address verification this is to ensure that there is no identity theft and the person applying is who he/she really is. Fourth, credit history, this checks if an applicant has past bankruptcies. Fifth, driving and vehicle records, this is required for driver applicants, this is to check if there are no history of accidents and traffic tickets. Sixth, criminal history report, this checks if an applicant has past criminal records. Drug tests are also required for applicants and some interviews as well.

But some background checks have their limits because of certain laws. These laws sometimes prohibit the employer to check personal information about credit and debts. Medical records are also sometimes prohibited because it is considered confidential.

Background checks are normal for job applicants. This is done to evaluate the skill and the credibility of job seekers. This is also done to ensure the employer that their future employees are credible, trustworthy and can be an asset of the company.
