"I am happy to announce that Mount Carmel Youth Ranch from Clark (near Cody & Yellowstone National Park), Wyoming has joined ISPA.

I spent last week from Tuesday - Friday at Mt. Carmel. It was quite an experience. Mt. Carmel is a working cattle ranch, 4,000 acres of which is owned and 40,000 acres which is leased. Those served at Mount Carmel are boys ages 12-17. These boys have difficulties in the areas of depression, anger management, substance abuse, low self-esteem etc.

The boys at Mount Carmel are truly involved in the operation of the ranch, from the calving to cattle drives and an extensive curriculum regarding agriculture and ranch management including equipment operation." Stated Andy after his visit to the Youth Ranch.

What makes Mount Carmel Youth Ranch a very effective wilderness/outdoor adventure program is that we leave the young man’s freedom intact. We respect their free will and help them through our educational and experiential approach to come to a deeper understanding appreciation and responsibility for the choices they make and the inherent consequences in those choices.

We had one of our students describe their experience with us in this simple phrase "Mount Carmel is not a group home, it is a family!" This is exactly what we strive to give to each of the young men who come to Mount Carmel Youth Ranch , We give him the love, encouragement and friendship he needs to build his self-esteem. We never belittle or degrade who he is, but with firm kindness instruct him on how to become a mature responsible young man who has confidence and self control.
